We have some exciting news to share. The Montrose Recreation District (MRD) has announced plans to relocate and expand its Community Fieldhouse — and it’s coming to Colorado Outdoors.
As one of our earliest partners, MRD continues to demonstrate their confidence in Colorado Outdoors and dedication to growing and serving the North end of Montrose. This is a multi-year, multi-million dollar investment in our neighborhood and in the Montrose community, and we’re looking forward to the additional activity and energy it will bring to everyone here.
The new Community Fieldhouse will be located at 1227 Mayfly Drive (the former Colorado Yurt / Secret Creek building) right here within the Colorado Outdoors development. The location offers direct access to the riverfront trail system, park space, and expanded service opportunities for the community.

Why is MRD Moving the Fieldhouse?
The existing Fieldhouse near Montrose High School is nearly 40 years old and serves close to 30,000 visitors annually. As demand has grown — adult indoor soccer participation alone has increased by over 45% since 2023 — the current facility simply can’t keep up. Relocating to Colorado Outdoors allows MRD to serve more residents with higher-quality, expanded services in a modern facility that will become a second premier destination within the MRD network, alongside the Community Recreation Center.
What Will the New Fieldhouse Include?
The approximately 32,000-square-foot open-span building is planned to include two artificial turf fields, classrooms and community rooms, fitness areas, and office space for frontline service staff. Additional programming and uses will be shaped through community input as the project develops.
What’s the Timeline?
- Property closing: February 24, 2026
- Design-build firm contracted: mid-Spring 2026
- Public engagement to inform design: mid-2026
- Renovation begins: early 2027
- MRD remains at existing Field House through: March 2027
- New Community Fieldhouse opens: September 2027

Get Involved
MRD is inviting the community to be part of the design process. As the project kicks off in mid-2026, there will be plenty of opportunities for public input. Keep an eye on MRD’s website for updates and ways to participate.
