Three years ago, Secret Creek made a meaningful commitment to Montrose when the company built its headquarters on the Colorado Outdoors campus. More than a mere office building, this 30,000-square-foot facility along the Uncompahgre River serves as a hub for decades of Western Colorado craftsmanship, a place where yurts, tipis, and canvas-wall tents are designed, fabricated, and showcased. With roots stretching back a half-century to the original Colorado Yurt Company founded in 1976, Secret Creek carries forward a legacy of quality and human-scale production that has become a recognized part of Montrose’s identity.

Secret Creek’s structures blend traditional forms with modern materials and engineering, offering durable, customizable designs that appeal to a range of outdoor uses—from private retreats and glamping venues to educational and hospitality settings. Their yurts, Earthworks tipis, and glamping-style tents reflect decades of honed technique. The move to Colorado Outdoors in 2022 was part of a broader evolution: a rebranding from Colorado Yurt Company, growth of their team, and commitment to expanding outdoor connections through craftsmanship and experience.

You might have seen Secret Creek at recent local gatherings, including the Montrose Block Party, where they brought mules and a tipi honoring Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, just one example of how they celebrate local culture and landscape. Their presence at community events underscores a deeper engagement with Montrose and the Western Slope outdoor economy.

This third anniversary is a moment to recognize the people behind the craft and the community that supports them. Secret Creek’s home on the Colorado Outdoors campus embodies a blend of innovation and local pride.

Thank you, Secret Creek, for the craftsmanship you bring to Montrose and to the Colorado Outdoors community!
